16th BOLIVIAN CONFERENCE ON DEVELOPMENT ECONOMICS 2025.
Santa Cruz, Bolivia, July 30 - August 1, 2025
We are delighted to invite the submission of papers for the 16th Bolivian Conference on Development Economics (BCDE16). The conference will take place in person from Wednesday, July 30, to Friday, August 1, 2025, and will be hosted by Universidad Privada Boliviana (UPB) in Santa Cruz, Bolivia.
ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
The Bolivian Conference on Development Economics aims to bring together local and international scholars to exchange ideas and discuss recent research on all areas related to economic development. We welcome submissions of theoretical and applied research, and we particularly encourage Bolivian scholars at an early stage in their careers to submit their work.
The conference is organized by the Society of Bolivian Economists (SEBOL), with the support from Universidad Privada Boliviana (UPB), the Bolivian Academy of Economic Sciences (ABCE), the Institute for Advanced Development Studies (INESAD), and the Sustainable Development Solutions Network – Bolivia (SDSN).
CONFIRMED KEYNOTE SPEAKERS
Francisco H. G. Ferreira is the Amartya Sen Professor of Inequality Studies at the London School of Economics and Director of the International Inequalities Institute. His research focuses on the measurement, causes, and consequences of inequality and poverty, particularly in Latin America. Previously, he held senior positions at the World Bank, including Chief Economist for the Africa Region and Senior Adviser in the Research Department. He has received multiple awards, including the Richard Stone Prize in Applied Econometrics. He also serves as President of the Latin American and Caribbean Economic Association (LACEA) and holds affiliations with institutions such as the Stone Center at CUNY and IZA Bonn.
Conchita D’Ambrosio is a Professor of Economics at the Université du Luxembourg, where she leads research on socio-economic inequalities as part of the FNR PEARL programme. Her work explores well-being, economic insecurity, multidimensional poverty, and social exclusion, incorporating insights from Biology. She has served as Editor of the Review of Income and Wealth (2008–2024) and is on the editorial board of the Journal of Economic Inequality. She also holds research affiliations with DIW Berlin, Università Bocconi, and the Luxembourg Income Study, among others, and is Vice-President of the Scientific Council of the Fondazione Luigi Einaudi.
SUBMISSIONS
BCDE16 invites individual submissions of research papers for presentation in parallel contributed sessions. We welcome submissions across all areas of development economics, including interdisciplinary work that provides novel insights into development-related issues.
While full papers are strongly preferred, extended abstracts will be exceptionally considered. Preference will be given to unpublished work.
All submitted papers will be reviewed prior to acceptance for presentation, and all applicants will be notified of the outcome by email.

Proposals for an entire thematic session are also welcome. For this, please submit three (3) papers individually using the link above and email the conference organizers to alert them about your proposed thematic session. Please note that all papers submitted as part of a thematic session will be reviewed individually. A thematic session will be formed if all papers are accepted. Otherwise, individually accepted papers will be allocated to parallel contributed sessions.
